Parenting in the 21st Century

Welcome to Ladybirds First Blog

Parenting is not only fun, rewarding and valuable but also emotional, tiring and at times extremely challenging. Every one of us parents differently, to not only our partners but to our neighbours, friends and colleagues. Yet often, ou parenting style is shaped and influenced by how our parents parented us. On top of this, we also have to contend with the difficulties of parenting children in the 21st Century. This can be a challenge within itself!

We can all get caught up in what is seen to be the right or the wrong way in how to raise children today. With such busy lives ourselves and with trying to balance home life, working life, childcare and wanting some personal time to ourselves (although this is rare for most of us), we can get caught up in feelings of guilt. Often it feels like we don't have enough time to just breathe, have a coffee or tea and take 5.

You are not alone though, if your're child spends 5 minutes longer on a device than you wanted or they don't get something finished because their too busy having fun. Does it matter? Sometimes it's about being in the moment, allowing your child some extra freedom, so that they can recognise those opportunities and appreciate them more as they grow older and the world becomes far more demanding of them.

As long as they are safe, secure, loved and as parents we are giving them some freedom within your own family expected boundaries, it will surely benefit you all.

So give yourselves a break, tell yourself your doing a great job and go have that cup of coffee and perhaps a biscuit or two!!
